Your first appointment is an opportunity for me to understand what brings you in, what you hope to get from treatment and how your body responds.
I don't expect you to know what type of treatment you need. We'll discuss what you're experiencing and determine an appropriate approach together.
Before Your First Appointment
New patients should book a minimum of 45 minutes. A 60-minute appointment is recommended for your first visit when available, as this provides enough time for assessment and treatment without feeling rushed.
Please complete your health history information before your appointment if it has been provided to you in advance. Your health history helps identify relevant injuries, medical conditions, medications and other factors that may influence treatment.
Your First Visit
We'll begin with a conversation about what brings you in. Depending on the reason for your visit, I may ask about your symptoms, previous injuries, activities, training, work demands or other factors that may be relevant.
Assessment is kept purposeful. I may look at movement or perform simple tests when they provide useful information, but the goal isn't to put every new patient through the same lengthy assessment.
From there, we'll begin treatment. Assessment continues throughout the session as I pay attention to how your body responds.
Communication During Treatment
Massage should be a collaborative process. Please let me know if something feels uncomfortable, if the pressure needs to change, or if you're experiencing a sensation that seems familiar or relevant to your symptoms.
More pressure isn't automatically more effective. Depending on what brings you in and how your body responds, treatment may range from focused therapeutic work to extremely gentle techniques.
You are always in control of your treatment. Techniques, positioning and pressure can be modified or stopped at any time.
Clothing & Draping
Depending on the treatment, you may remain clothed or be asked to undress to your level of comfort. You will have privacy to change and will be appropriately draped throughout treatment.
Only the area being treated is uncovered, and treatment can always be adapted to your comfort and preferences.
After Your Treatment
At the end of the appointment, we'll briefly review how the treatment went and anything relevant that came up during the session.
When appropriate, we can also discuss whether another appointment may be useful. I don't believe everyone needs massage on a predetermined schedule. Recommendations depend on why you've come in, how you respond and what you're hoping to accomplish.
Not Sure What to Book?
Start with time, not a technique.
For most new patients, a 60-minute appointment is a good place to begin. You don't need to select a particular treatment style before you arrive.
Available appointments can be found under Book Online in the menu.
